Leadership Essentials

The target audience for Belmont University's Leadership Essentials Program is managers with several years of supervisory experience.  This program is appropriate for building leadership competencies in core management teams.

Course Descriptions

Building a Dynamic Team
  • Examine what makes dynamic, effective work groups
  • Identify appropriate responses for resolving team problems
  Presenting for Results
  • Discuss best practices in presentation skills
  • Learn to Play and deliver a dynamic and effective presentation
  Improving your Team
  • Build trust with colleagues through learning to accept conflict as a positive, necessary element to growth
  • Accept conflict as a positive, necessary element to growth
  • Appreciate the need for commitment to team principles and organizational goals
  Negotiating for Success
  • Understand the concepts of negotiation based on mutual interest and benefit
  • Learn and practice a series of steps for working through a negotiation
  Strengthening Your Team and Leadership
  • Determine five strengths themes as a result of taking the StrengthsFinders assessment.
  • Identify ways to work together as a team to optimize


An additional three (3) days of classes are chosen by the program participants to meet common training needs. Possible electives include:
